Fourth of July Treat
Happy Fourth of July!
Our favorite Fourth of July treat:
Traditional Muddie Buddies
9 cups Chex, any variety
1 pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Measure cereal into a large bowl (I use a bowl with a lid); set aside. Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and margarine/butter either on the stove top or in the microwave. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over chex in bowl, stir until evenly coated. Add powdered sugar. Place lid on the bowl and shake until well coated. Store in airtight container in refrigerator (I use large ziploc bags so we can take them to the fireworks display).
My son has a mild peanut allergy. I also have two kids that get headaches from eating chocolate. So I changed the chocolate to white chocolate and removed the peanut butter from the recipe last year.

Backpack Buddies Club
The kids and I are looking forward to packing backpacks with Backpack Buddies. We have had so much fun participating in this wonderful organization.

Who are we?
We started out as two sisters who were looking for a service project for our children. We wanted our kids to learn how to work and how to serve other people. This project gives our kids a chance to experience the gift of giving.
It also is an attitude-shift on their part from concern about themselves to concern for others.
We decided to help local homeless children and children in need. Currently we are delivering filled backpacks quarterly to homeless shelters, churches, and food pantries.
The Daily Herald, USA Weekend, and the Points of Light Foundation awarded us local winners of "making a difference" on Make a Difference Day 2001. A check for $500.00 was awarded to the charity of our choice, The Elgin Community Crisis Center.
The idea has caught on. We are now being helped by other moms, their kids, community members, churches, schools, and other organizations. Since our first delivery in October 2001, we have delivered almost 3,200 backpacks! We are continuing to grow and now have become a 501(c)(3) Corporation.

ICHE Young Adult Family Outing

Young adults (18 and over) along with their entire families are invited to join us for a day of delightful fellowship at:
Blackwell Forest Preserve
on Butterfield Road in Warrenville, Illinois!
We have rented a shelter where we will gather for games such as volleyball, corn toss and croquet. Along with the games, there is a lovely lake with canoe and rowboat rentals. We'll conclude the event with a potluck dinner under the shelter.

8:30 Park closes
Please bring a main dish and a dessert to share along with folding chairs and outdoor games. We'll provide the shelter, paper goods, and drinks for just $10.00 per family.
