DuPage Forest Preserve Summer Camps Registration
How will your child spend summer? Sitting on the couch watching TV or riding horses, feeding farm animals or exploring the outdoors? Help your child discover a new corner of the world through one of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s summer programs for kids.
All programs are day camps, and some include one-night camp outs. Enrollment deadlines vary. Registration forms are available in the Education section of the District's Web site.
“GO! Camp for Guys” will guide Boy Scouts ages 11 – 17 through a week in the outdoors July 12 – 16 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center. Activities, which include an overnight camp out, will meet requirements of the “Environmental Science” merit badge, a badge required for advancement to Eagle Scout. Registration for “GO! Camp for Guys” costs $99 per Scout for DuPage County residents and $125 for nonresidents. For information, call the center at 630-850-8110.
During “Horse Sense” camp at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton, children ages 10 – 12 will enjoy hands-on experiences with horses while learning about day-to-day stable activities. Crafts, games and supervised lead-line horseback rides round out the program. Four five-day sessions are offered between June and August. At Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn, children ages 9 – 12 can participate in “Roger Raccoon Club” and discover the natural history of DuPage County through safe exploration and play in wild places. Two four-day sessions are offered in June and July, each including an overnight camp out at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien. Registration costs $75 per session. Also coordinated by Willowbrook Wildlife Center, children ages 6 – 8 can enroll in “Hodge Podge Lodge,” where they will learn about the environment and how they are part of nature. Each day will involve games, activities and stories. Each session will conclude with a cookout at Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton. And, Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago offers “Kline Creek Farmhands,” where children ages 7 – 12 can experience life on a historic working farm, including chores and domestic activities as well as games from the 1890s.
