18th Annual Green and Growing Fair

Kick off the growing season, and celebrate Earth Day, at the 18th Annual Green & Growing Fair at the Garfield Park Conservatory. This urban gardening fair, sponsored by GreenNet, Chicago's Urban Greening Network, plunges into spring by hosting a variety of vendors, workshops, demonstrations, and family activities to get your rusty green thumb up and running. Just some of the activities in store during the fair are:

Purchase heirloom seeds, unique seedlings, and other inspirational garden materials

Family take-home planting activities, such as rot pot seed starting activities, and grow a pizza garden!

Native Landscape Workshops, $5 per person, tickets on sale starting at 9am

“Knock on Native Wood,” 10 am – 10:45 am, with Kelsay Shaw of Possibility Place Nursery

“Jens Jensen and Prairie on Chicago’s West Side,” 11 am – Noon, with historian Barbara Geiger

Drop-In Learning Stations on the Bluestone Terrace, 11 am – 3 pm

Basics of Composting

Rot Pot Seed Starting

Tool Sharpening – bring your dull tools from home (small fee)

Been Teepees and Tomato Cages

Native Plants for your Yard

Soil Information Station

The Buzz on Beehives and Honey Tasting

Body-Smart Gardening

Winner of the One Seed Chicago “Seed of the Year” will be announced at Noon
