Join our camp and explore music and composition with our musical, fun-filled MIDI Lab
9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.Kindergarten through Second Grade Half-Day Camp
9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.Third Grade through High School Camps
CALLING ALL YOUNG MUSICIANS!Students will explore out brand new MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) computer lab with exciting music software such as Sibelius (composition), Practica Musica (music theory, sight-singing), and rhythm-based software. Students will learn how to use the web to find information about composers, musicians, music styles, and genres. Camp cost includes all classes, presentations, and lunch served in the Judson University Cafeteria. Students playing band instruments will be placed in bands. Students playing stringed instruments will be placed in smaller instrumental ensembles. Vocal students will participate in vocal ensembles.
HALF-DAY CAMPEntering kindergarten through second grade: $100Please join us for this fun-filled exploration of music basics Students will focus on fun rhythm games, simple instrument building, singing, and lots of FUN!!
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAMPEntering third through fifth grade: $200Computer-based instruction in composition (basics of Sibelius software) and rhythm software. Fun, games, vocal ensembles, recorder instruction, master classes, recitals, and more! Add two 30-minute private lessons taught by Judson University faculty for only $50 in piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, saxophone, flute, bassoon, clarinet, oboe, or drums!
JUNIOR HIGH CAMP Entering sixth through eighth grades: $250
HIGH SCHOOL CAMP Entering ninth through twelfth grades: $250
Computer-based instruction in music courses such as music appreciation, ear training, theory, and composition. Also, students will learn basics of such music software as Sibelius (composition), and Practica Musica (theory). Also included are private lessons, recitals, and vocal/instrumental ensembles. Camp cost includes all classes, presentations, lunch, plus two 30-minute private lessons in piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, saxophone, flute, bassoon, clarinet, oboe, percussion, or voice (high school only).

Organization Tip: Fishing for Chores
A couple of years ago I was watching Jo Frost on "Supernanny." On the episode she implemented "Fishing for Chores." I called the kids - "Look." At first they did the typical eye roll, "Here goes Mom again..." But while the show was still on I was off to the craft shelf for supplies.
An assembly line began:
I cut out fish. My youngest daughter handed my oldest daughter a paper clip. My youngest son cut the electrical tape to size. My oldest daughter taped the paper clip to the back of each fish. Then they came back to me to write one chore on each fish.
Meanwhile my oldest son was off to make a "fishing" pole from pvc pipe, twine and a button refrigerator magnet.
Samples of chores:
Take out the garbage
Swiffer the floor
Wash the bathroom sink/counter
So the next morning we got up - they were actually excited to fish for chores!
The first couple of weeks I shadowed their chores to show them how to do them then they were on their own.
We still use this system almost three years later.
What it meant for me:
I didn't have to assign out the chores. I didn't have to hear, "It isn't fair... he always..." All because they were the ones fishing.
What it meant for them:
They aren't always thrilled about chores but they still like fishing for them.
I have visual spatial children. Telling them just didn't work effectively. A chart on the wall meant stopping between chores to see what was next then getting distracted. This way the four fish they choose go with them from chore to chore until they send them back to the "pond" bowl for next time.

The best family event ever…and it’s free! Come out to the zoo for a day of family fun. Learn about the animals we depend on every day, as well as the wild ones that live around us. Touch a snake or turtle, watch a sheep shearing demonstration, visit with a veterinarian and others who work with animals. There are crafts to make, animals to meet, and lots to see and do. Some activities may have a small fee.
Additional parking is available at Sandburg School on Jewell Road and at Hofner and Hofner at the corner of Prairie and Gary.
